Abstract:Based on provincial panel data from 2010 to 2024, this study constructs a comprehensive evaluation index system and uses the entropy weight method to measure the level of digital countryside construction and the high-quality development of the rural economy. Econometric models such as a two-way fixed-effects panel model are employed to empirically examine the impact of digital countryside construction on the high-quality development of the rural economy. The benchmark regression results indicate that digital countryside construction has a positive effect on the high-quality development of the rural economy, and this conclusion remains robust after endogeneity and robustness tests. The analysis of impact mechanisms shows that rural industrial integration and the level of technological innovation play mediating roles, revealing transmission mechanisms of“digital countryside construction→rural industrial integration→high-quality development of the rural economy”and“digital countryside construction→improvement in technological innovation→high-quality development of the rural economy”. Heterogeneity tests further show that digital countryside construction has a more significant impact on the high-quality development of the rural economy in eastern regions and in regions with high Internet penetration. Accordingly, this study puts forward policy recommendations such as strengthening the construction of rural digital infrastructure, deepening the digitalization of the whole agricultural industry chain, accelerating rural industrial integration, and enhancing the level of technological innovation.
